Being first in Google

It is possible to be first on Google, but it is good to follow the guidelines of the search engine, not to stumble into improper conduct that the engines do not like and which could cause the site to be removed from their listings.

Let’s see what some of the guidelines dictated by Google are:

  • Be very careful with SEO firms that send unsolicited email like this: “Dear Customer, I visited your site and I noticed that you are not listed in major search engines and directories …”

  • We must be wary of SEO who claim to secure positions or have a “special relationship” with Google or that provide a “priority alert” on Google. There is no priority alert on Google. The only way to send a site to Google is through the Add URL page, through the Google Sitemaps program or through link building.

  • Be very careful what an SEO creates on your behalf, For example, pages containing deceptive or misleading content, doorway pages or “disposable” domains. That’s the best way to have the site completely removed from Google’s index.

  • Avoid SEOs who advise and propose to report the site to thousands of search engines. First of all, there are not thousands of search engines. Then, these are usually unnecessary operations which do not affect in any way the ranking on the major search engines.

  • Be aware of SEOs creating doorway pages loaded with keywords somewhere in the customer’s site. The SEO guarantees that this will make the page more relevant for more searches. This is not true and more often then not these pages contain hidden links to other websites. This reduces the popularity of a site and increase the probability of being redirected to other sites with offensive or illegal content.
